A Night to Will Remember
On April 10, I walked into our gym and hardly recognized it. What usually felt ordinary had turned into an enchanted garden full of lights, color, and excitement. Everywhere I looked, little girls were arriving in beautiful dresses, many of them dressed like princesses, and the important men in their lives were walking in beside them. Some came with their dads, some stepdads, some grandfathers, but all of them came ready for a night that felt special.
I had helped cast the vision for the Princess Ball, but a great team of women, especially young moms who cared deeply about this event, took that vision and made it better than I imagined. They worked for months, and it showed, from the pictures at check-in to the desserts, the raffle baskets, the music, the dancing and every detail that helped create a night that felt joyful and welcoming.
One of my favorite parts was watching the girls dance. During a slow song, I looked around and saw these men holding little girls in their arms while their feet dangled in the air. It was such a tender picture. Later, after the event had ended and we were cleaning up, one dad asked if we could leave the music on. He stayed and danced with his daughter for another twenty minutes because she did not want the night to end. That moment stayed with me.
What surprised me most was how many people came who were new to us. We had families from Good News Club, neighbors, and guests who had simply been invited by someone from the church. We did not stop the evening for a formal message, but I still felt like God was at work in a quiet and powerful way. Families were welcomed, girls felt valued, and dads were given the chance to slow down and make a memory that mattered.
I came away grateful because the Princess Ball was more than a fun event. It gave families a safe place to laugh, dance, and connect. It reminded me that ministry sometimes looks like creating a simple moment where people feel seen, loved, and invited in. That was why the night mattered so much, and that was why I knew we had to do it again.
