Let His House Be A House of Prayer
Evening Prayer Service

On February 4, I sat in the sanctuary for our third annual Night of Prayer, feeling a mix of gratitude and nerves. As the person responsible for planning our services and events, I usually arrive with a detailed itinerary. This time, I felt challenged to choose: would I hold tightly to my plan, or let God lead?
I had prepared what felt like a hundred worship songs, but in the end, we sang only a handful. God met us in those few moments, reminding me that the service was never really “mine” to begin with. Our Night of Prayer was the culmination of a full week of focused prayer where our church family filled the prayer room with requests and praises. During the service, we paired people up to pray over those very cards, spending time lifting up each specific need.

While it wasn’t our largest gathering of the year, I’ve come to see this night as a true test of our hearts. We often say we want God to lead our church, and this evening proved we meant it. We were reminded that God’s house is a house of prayer—not just a house of programs or music. Seeing our youth and school ministries blossom lately makes it clear: there is no formula. We are simply seeing God bless His people as they pray.
One of my favorite moments was watching people linger at the altar long after the service ended. There was a palpable sense of healing in the room. This experience has even changed my daily life; instead of just promising to pray for someone later, I now try to stop and pray with them right then and there—whether at the grocery store or in the foyer. My hope is that we become a “life-saving station” where everyone knows they will be lifted up.
