Bridging School and Church together at Christmas
Coventry Elementary Choir

For years, we’ve welcomed students from Coventry Elementary into our church at Christmas, but this past year felt uniquely special. It wasn’t just a concert; it was a beautiful blending of lives. Out of forty-two kids in the choir, forty joined us that Sunday morning. The two who couldn’t make it were actually busy serving in their own home churches, which brought a smile to my face.

The hospitality from our church family was incredible. When the students walked in and saw the breakfast prepared just for them, I heard several gasps of, “This is amazing!” It wasn’t just about the food; it was the way the tables were set with coloring books and the warm welcome from volunteers. Even our Women’s Ministry graciously shared their gym space so we could spread out. Throughout the morning, our pastors and volunteers taught a short lesson and helped with crafts, giving parents a front-row seat to see the church in action—some for the very first time.

This year, I took a leap of faith and invited the choir back for Christmas Eve. I was nervous about asking families to come out on such a busy night, but the response surprised me. Many didn’t have a holiday tradition of their own and jumped at the chance. We blended our church kids with the Coventry choir, handed out jingle bells, and let them lead a joyful, slightly noisy, family-focused service.

To me, this partnership has always been about more than music. Through connections like the Good News Club, our church has become a safe, familiar place for these students and teachers. I’ve watched stereotypes soften on both sides. My hope is that this choir continues to be a bridge of love and truth between our classrooms and our church for years to come.
