Kids Splash Night
Splash Night is what I like to call a “top of the funnel” event because it’s a fun, low-pressure way for people to encounter our church. Splash Night is a time for families to come, stick around, talk to staff like me, meet others, and get a feel for who we are. It’s all about connection, not a sermon.
The event itself was packed with activities. We had a big slip-and-slide, water inflatables, and a thousand water balloons. For the younger kids, we set up kiddie pools and tiny squirt guns—safe and easy to use. Frozen fruit was the hit snack this year, thanks to a few passionate volunteers who wanted to avoid the sugar rush.
I personally stationed myself in one of the inflatables for two hours, letting the kids pelt me with water balloons and sneak attacks—with a few laughs and squeals in the mix. One kid, pretty sure it was Adam, walked up with one of those indestructible water balloons, cracked it on his own head, and proudly declared, “Mr. Todd, watch this!” Highlight of my night.
Best of all, adults were talking to each other. Not buried in their phones—real conversations were happening. That’s what this is all about—building bridges, one squirt gun at a time.
This year was one for the books. I handed off the photo duties to one of the moms and she went above and beyond. She sent me so many great shots that I didn’t even filter them. Just hit send and hoped everyone enjoyed a good laugh. Thank you Nicole.
